Anyone else annoyed by Âme rip-offs?
It's like when you go to the record store and everything tries to sound like Âme or Innervisions records...
I think some people tryin to get "butt rich" on copying the Âme sound - makes me "loco" and throw a "dice"!! WTF?
It's interesting, usually we accuse the Majors to overdo successful sounds until everything gets annoying, but apparently it happens on a "small scale" as well. A good indicator is when good records get licensed by Defected ;)
I still think that Innervisions are exceptional records, every Âme / Henrik Schwarz / I:Cube / Chateau Flight production really stands out - but while they were one of a kind before they now have to stand out in a crowd of wannabes and rip-offs...
So what's now to come? Since everyone is tryin to do epic deep house records now these days and the 57th Ibadan sounds like trance-ibiza tracks that we used make fun of - where are supposed to follow you to?

Sorry, I just had to get this off my chest. It's just that I came from the record store today and for the first time I didn't even feel like listening to the new Ibadan or Carl Craig - some time ago I'd bought them blindly!

Cheers,

innersoul

As long as you don't play the Karizma remix of "Deep Burnt" everything should be ok... ;)

Na, seriously though, there sure are quite a few people hopping the bandwagon these days. But as long as the tracks don't suck I don't mind hearing them in a DJ set at all.
However, when I'm out buying records there are always some actually good records that I don't buy because I can't shake the feeling that I already have a bunch of equal ones at home (that being said by someone who only has approx 300 records so far).
I think it's alright though. There are stand-out tunes and there are nice but replaceable ones. The DJ can't only play 5/5ers all the time, I guess. In the long run, "Rej" will sure be remembered in a few years, "The Cube" probably won't. :)

there´s also a Karizma track using the exact same drums as in basic track.. but maybe this goes too far....
so i think there´s a problem if people suddenly jump on the waggon who used to do maybe boring minimal or other things...dont know what dice made before..and i am not really interested in what he does now.
but how would you act if you sit on a track and then you think "damn.. i cant take this padsound cause it sounds too innervisions..." think that´s whack too.
drumpoet is also very new, but i wouldnt call it biting or something else, it´s their sound... so in the end âme and the rest made up new spaces where the sound could go. and now make the best out of it...(which doesnt mean exploit it)

maybe it's time for Âme to make a Kerri Chandler "Phuck this Cowbell" - Track...

"I can't take this shit no more, it's drivin me nuts. My arms fall off.... So fuck it. Fuck this cowbell .... errr cow-strings/Rej-bells (?) or something "

well, these days you either get epic/deep detroit-sounding house tracks (a la Sandstorms), nu-disco/balearic house (a la Reverso 68 ) or boring minimal shitty techno-wannabe records (as in the recent M_Nus sound). oh, and also lots and lots of re-edits, it seems everyone has discovered the ease of soundforge/ableton as of lately.

personally, i haven't been a fan of Ame produced tracks/remixes since Kuma. i think you guys are trying too hard to go for the epic stadium-sounding tracks. and those recent remixes for ibadan and buzzin fly just border on cheesy house for dubious dancefloors IMO. my opinion is that you've mastered the type of songs/tracks/sound you were reaching for, thus generating so many 2nd class ame rip-offs. please bring back creativity! same with the latest drumpoet 12"s, all sound the same. that first one by foster was a real winner though.

innervisions though, has been a nice surprise. from the great prescription inspired record by atjazz to the incredibly fresh tracks by chateau flight (house record of the year for me), i think dixon's baby label is on the right path to become a future reference.

just being honest with myself and you guys here. no offense intended!

still Excelsior was the bomb and very unique! the ibadan mix indeed was borderline ibiza "Guhde Lauhne"-Vaeth-house ;)

thing is that house has its beauty in stupidity and boredom.
damn how many dj pierre records do i have that really sounds the same.
still - i love his productions.

and for ame - they will find a way. things always move on....

I understand most of the things that u all said here, but one thing i wanna say is that that we are very proud of our remixes of Timbuktu and i will still play them in 5 years.
music which polarise the people is always interesting and also many people hate klaus schulze music, cause they are saying thsi is bullshit hippie trance music, but he didnt give a fuck on these opinions.
and for sure things will move forward...
